North East England

The first AFAF Branch in the north east was formed in September 2023 at Northumbria University. In October 2024, the branch expanded to cover all universities in the north east of England in order to defend and promote free speech and academic freedom throughout the region.

We invite interested members of academic staff, professional staff, and students at Durham University, Northumbria University, the University of Newcastle, or Sunderland University to join us, irrespective of your disciplinary background, or your political views.

We ask only that you are committed to defending and advocating for free speech and academic freedom as defined in the Academics for Academic Freedom statement of principles.
