Nigel Biggar in Dublin
On Wednesday 6 May, Nigel Biggar returned to Dublin to give a lecture after the cancellation of a talk he was scheduled to give at a school in October 2025. The well-known Irish journalist, David Quinn, wrote about the previous cancellation and the upcoming lecture by Biggar, in a piece for Gript. He concluded by saying that the talk ‘will be a small test of our toleration of free speech in Ireland.’ That small test was passed without incident.
Nigel’s lecture ‘The Culture Wars: why ‘liberals’ must win them’ was based on his latest book The New Dark Age. The event was sponsored by AFAF and supported by Free Speech Ireland. Tim Crowley, convenor of Dublin Universities AFAF, and a lecturer at University College Dublin UCD), introduced the lecture, which was part of the series ‘The Dublin Lectures on Free Speech & Academic Freedom’ initiated by the President, Orla Feely.
A video of the talk is available on YouTube: The Culture Wars: Why ‘Liberals’ Must Win Them.
